2021 flagships reach end of life

Xiaomi has officially ended software support for four smartphone models. Information from the Xiaomi Security Center and the Android Enterprise Recommended list confirms that Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Lite and Redmi Note 12 5G will no longer receive updates.

Final HyperOS versions for Xiaomi 12 and Redmi Note 12 5G

The handsets have been assigned End-of-Life (EOL) status, bringing all OTA updates, security patches and new features to an end. Their final software releases are:

  • Xiaomi 12 - HyperOS 3.0 based on Android 15;
  • Xiaomi 12 Pro - HyperOS 3.0 based on Android 15;
  • Redmi Note 12 5G - HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 14;
  • Xiaomi 12 Lite - HyperOS 1.0 based on Android 14.

Hardware limits behind the decision

As reported by XiaomiTime, the move is attributed not only to the devices’ age but also to hardware constraints. The Xiaomi 12 series uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a chip criticised for running hot and offering less-than-ideal energy efficiency. As HyperOS grows more demanding and gains additional AI features, extending support for these phones could have made those issues even more pronounced.
