Intel will not have a new desktop flagship until Nova Lake-S

Intel has officially cancelled plans to launch the Core Ultra 9 290K Plus desktop processor. The news was confirmed by Florian Maislinger, a representative of Intel Germany.

“In Intel we are pleased to offer users a genuinely strong balance of capabilities and price with the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus series. The Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus models are already well positioned: they deliver high gaming performance and very attractive value compared with competitors. We aimed to get the most out of the desktop SKUs that will be available to the widest possible group of buyers. Therefore, Intel will not bring the 290K Plus model to market,” the Intel representative said.

According to PC Games Hardware, this reasoning had already appeared in the company’s internal plans. In effect, Intel concluded that the already released Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus sufficiently cover the role of the Core Ultra 200S Plus range, making another processor with similar specifications unnecessary.

The Core Ultra 9 285K will therefore remain Intel’s flagship desktop processor for the current generation, while the new Core Ultra 7 270K Plus will serve as a more affordable alternative. Intel’s next flagship processors will arrive as part of the entirely new Nova Lake-S line.
