2021 has delivered a host of remarkable gaming experiences, with Metroidvania fans enjoying a particularly rich selection. Titles such as Axiom Verge 2, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, and Grime have arrived in abundance, and F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is aiming to join those celebrated releases. Does TiGames' latest indie game deserve its place in the long-running Metroidvania genre, though, or should you simply replay Ori and the Will of the Wisps instead?
F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch gameplay tour
Marcus Stewart, Dan Tack, and Alex Stadnik tackle that very question while taking viewers through F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch in this new episode of New Gameplay Today. The panel examines the gratifying combat, dependable narrative, and compelling setting that players can anticipate battling through. They also end up discussing root beer towards the close of the episode (we're on one today).
Combat and Torch City in F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch
F.I.S.T. centres on Rayton, an anthropomorphic rabbit fighter sent to save his friend as he battles through Torch City, a "diesel-punk" world. Although the story has plenty to offer, combat is the true heart of the game. In the view of our own Mr. Stewart, each encounter feels rewarding, with numerous upgrades and fresh moves to acquire while progressing through the city. F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch does not introduce any truly revolutionary mechanics, but it achieves its goals and gives players a hard-hitting, engaging Metroidvania adventure.
