Samsung smart glasses could launch in 2026, with a display model in 2027

Samsung’s first smart glasses are expected to arrive in 2026. However, a version with a display may not appear until 2027.

Sales figures from Meta and Ray-Ban indicate that smart glasses are attracting growing interest from the general public. Samsung is among the companies expected to enter this market soon. When unveiling its Galaxy XR mixed-reality headset, the Korean giant confirmed that it is developing smart glasses with Google, although it has not yet shared any details.

Unofficial information is already circulating online in the meantime. In an article published this week, GSMArena cites a report by Dutch outlet Galaxyclub.nl concerning Samsung’s upcoming glasses. Unfortunately, those hoping for smart glasses with a display, such as the Ray-Ban Meta Display, could be disappointed. Samsung’s first smart glasses, reportedly planned for release in 2026, would not include a display; glasses with a display would instead be expected in 2027.

Samsung smart glasses: camera, connectivity and photochromic lenses

The latest rumour also suggests that Samsung’s glasses will feature a camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The device would additionally be able to connect to mobile data. It would use lenses that darken when exposed to sunlight.

In short, Samsung could initially offer a product very similar to the Ray-Ban Meta. Its partnership with Google also points to these glasses running the Android XR platform and using the Gemini chatbot.

A future with less smartphone use

Smart glasses currently on sale do not yet replace smartphones. Even so, they can reduce how often people need to use their mobile phones, since calls can be made and an AI can be queried through the glasses. Display-equipped models such as the Ray-Ban Meta Display even make it possible to take video calls without taking out a smartphone.

In any case, it is unsurprising that Samsung is taking a close interest in this market. According to rumours, Apple recently abandoned a mixed-reality headset project in order to focus on developing smart glasses.
