Samsung CES foldable display could be used in the future folding iPhone

Samsung used CES in Las Vegas to showcase a foldable display with no visible crease, addressing one of the technology’s major shortcomings. This could potentially be the screen intended for the future folding iPhone. Apple is a Samsung Display customer, and rumours suggest that the forthcoming folding iPhone should not have a crease.

Although Apple has no presence at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the company has still become part of the conversation. While it does not have a stand at the event, the display for its future folding iPhone may have appeared at the Samsung Display stand. The company is using the major technology show to reveal its latest OLED display developments. According to Sammobile, Samsung Display exhibited a crease-free foldable display prototype that could solve one of the main drawbacks of foldable smartphones.

In recent years, the industry has made foldable-screen devices more durable. Yet, despite manufacturers’ efforts, one issue remains: the crease, which is often highly noticeable around the hinge. Samsung now appears to have found a way to tackle this problem, raising hopes that the next Galaxy Z Fold, as well as the future folding iPhone, will no longer suffer from it.

A future folding iPhone could use Samsung Display technology

While Apple and Samsung compete in the smartphone market, Samsung Display is also one of Apple’s display suppliers. Rumours indicate that a key feature of the future folding iPhone, expected to arrive in September, will be the lack of a visible crease. The technology Samsung Display presented at CES could therefore be the one used in Apple’s future foldable iPhone.

An iPhone close to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold

Unfortunately, few details are available about the crease-free foldable display shown by Samsung Display at CES. However, Sammobile reports that sources had previously mentioned a laser-perforated metal plate, which would allow Samsung to distribute the tension created when the display is folded and thereby prevent creases from forming.

As for the future folding iPhone, it is rumoured to adopt a format similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices. It would therefore be a handset with conventional dimensions when folded, while offering a tablet-sized display once unfolded. In terms of price, the folding iPhone could cost more than $2,000 in the United States.

In any case, this model is eagerly anticipated, not only by Apple fans. Cupertino’s entry into this market could boost demand for other brands too, including Samsung, Google, Honor and Xiaomi.
