Apple could end the annual iPhone launch cycle

Could the iPhone’s annual cycle be coming to an end? Apple is reportedly planning to adopt a new timetable for launching its new smartphones, with the revised schedule said to take effect from next year.

Unlike its rivals in the smartphone market, Apple has consistently followed a yearly release cycle. Since 2011, new iPhones have arrived in the autumn, except in years when an iPhone “SE” was also released. However, according to the latest newsletter from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, this approach has become a burden for Apple. The company now launches more models each year, and that number is expected to rise further.

Apple could split iPhone launches from 2026

Apple is therefore said to be preparing two launches each year, beginning in 2026. In the autumn, it would unveil only three new devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone. Six months later, Apple would introduce the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and possibly the iPhone Air 2. This new schedule could help Apple maintain steadier revenue throughout the year, while easing pressure on both its employees and suppliers.

A new era for Apple

The company is also expected to bring more new features to its fans. That process has already started this year with the introduction of the iPhone Air. Next year, Apple should finally launch its first foldable iPhone. Then, in 2027, it could unveil a new iPhone featuring a curved display and a front camera concealed beneath the screen, meaning no more notch.

iOS updates could also change

Apple’s approach to updating iOS may change as well. Rather than releasing one major update each autumn, the company could also roll out significant new features for its operating system in the spring.

As usual, though, these details should still be treated cautiously, as they do not come from an official source.
