Apple unveils the AirPods Max 2 with the H2 chip

Apple has sprung a surprise with the unveiling of the AirPods Max 2. The new headphones are powered by the H2 chip, enabling Apple to introduce extra features while enhancing audio quality.

Apple has already unveiled a host of new products this March, including the iPhone 17e and MacBook Neo. This Monday, however, the company is announcing another device: the AirPods Max 2. Priced at €579, this latest version of Apple’s premium headphones brings numerous changes over its predecessor. On the hardware side, the key addition is the H2 chip.

AirPods Max 2 noise cancellation and smart features

Apple says the chip makes active noise cancellation up to 1.5 times more effective than on the previous generation. As a result, AirPods Max 2 users can listen to music even in very loud settings, such as beside an aircraft engine or on a train. The chip also allows Apple to add new “smart” AirPods Max 2 features, including voice isolation during calls, Adaptive Audio, and Conversation Awareness, which makes it easier to hear someone you are speaking to by reducing surrounding noise.

The AirPods Max 2 also support Siri interactions through head movements. Apple further says its new headphones enable podcast creators and singers to make studio-quality audio recordings.

Improved audio quality

Naturally, Apple is continuing to refine sound quality. The company highlights a new wide dynamic range amplifier, intended to deliver cleaner sound, alongside improved spatial audio with more precise bass and more natural mid-range and high frequencies. “For the best audio quality for music, films and games, the new AirPods Max support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected using the included USB-C cable,” the company also states. Wireless connection latency has also been reduced to better meet the needs of gamers.

AirPods Max 2 price and availability

As mentioned above, the AirPods Max 2 will be sold for €579. Orders will open from 25 March, with availability scheduled for the beginning of next month.
