Apple is reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone for 2026, while Samsung has already confirmed that it will sell a smartphone that folds in three. Rumours suggest that the two devices could be priced fairly similarly.

The foldable smartphone market is expected to become more competitive in 2026 with Apple’s arrival. According to numerous sources, the first foldable iPhone is due to launch next September. It is said to use the same smartphone-to-tablet format as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The foldable iPhone may have a barely noticeable crease around its hinge - one of the drawbacks of foldable displays - but it could cost more than rival products. The latest rumours indicate that Apple could sell the foldable iPhone in the United States for $2,399.

For now, this remains only a rumour. However, if it proves accurate, the high price of the forthcoming foldable iPhone could work in Samsung’s favour, as the company offers a similar device at a more accessible price. That is not all: the Korean giant is already developing an entirely new type of product, a smartphone that folds in three. Despite offering a completely different format, Samsung’s triple-fold smartphone could become the main rival to the future foldable iPhone, with a price close to that of Apple’s two-fold device.

Samsung’s triple-fold smartphone could cost less than expected

Earlier rumours suggested that Samsung’s first triple-fold smartphone could cost the equivalent of $2,720 in South Korea. However, “yeux1122”, a Korean source on the Naver platform, now says that this new device should instead be priced at the equivalent of $2,447. As a result, some people planning to buy the foldable iPhone may choose Samsung’s model instead, even if it means paying slightly more.

As for its specifications, Samsung’s triple-fold smartphone is rumoured to feature a 10-inch internal foldable display. Its external screen could measure 6.5 inches diagonally. The handset is also expected to have a 200-megapixel main rear camera and a 5,437 mAh battery.
