OpenClaw: why the Mac mini could be the ideal computer

Considered by Nvidia chief Jensen Huan to be “the next ChatGPT”, OpenClaw is an open-source technology that gives you a personal AI agent running locally and continuously on your machine. Apple’s Mac mini, long seen as a niche product, appears to be one of the community’s preferred computers for running OpenClaw.

According to Nvidia chief Jensen Huan, OpenClaw is “certainly the next ChatGPT”. This new AI generated considerable interest in January, largely because it enables people to have a genuinely personal artificial intelligence agent running locally and permanently on a Mac, Windows PC or Linux computer. Rather than simply answering questions through a messaging interface, OpenClaw can also carry out tasks in a browser or through connected plug-ins.

Another benefit of OpenClaw is that it is an open-source project. “It is now the largest, most popular and most successful open-source project in human history,” Jensen Huan said in an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of Nvidia’s annual conference.

Is the Mac mini the ideal device for running OpenClaw?

While Apple is struggling to develop its own AI, one of its products is enjoying major success amid the OpenClaw buzz. Often regarded as a niche offering compared with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the Mac mini has become one of the favourite machines among OpenClaw users. Although it is difficult to establish exactly how this AI’s arrival has affected sales of Apple’s compact desktop, English-language media outlets have reported stock shortages.

Mac mini searches have risen since January

Google Trends data for both the global market and the United States shows that searches for the Mac mini have increased since January. Compact, more affordable than other Macs apart from the MacBook Neo, yet powerful, the Mac mini could be the ideal device for running this kind of AI.

This March, Perplexity also announced a new product called “Personal Computer”, which works in a similar way to OpenClaw and is designed to run on a Mac mini. “It’s personal, secure and works with your files, apps and sessions through a Mac mini running continuously,” the start-up stated.
