Halo Infinite’s forthcoming launch is a thrilling moment for Xbox fans around the globe. Master Chief’s return is set to be an exhilarating event, and we are offering a brief 4K glimpse of the opening mission from 343’s newest adventure.
In this footage, John-117 battles the Banished: a recognisable but fresh faction of Grunts, Jackals, Brutes and Elites that has reached Zeta Halo and intends to exploit its power for its own benefit. Halo Infinite’s first stage is set 18 months after the events of Halo 5, with Chief returning to the fight and battling for survival aboard the Banished warship Gbraakon after spending six months unconscious. He must shoot his way past alien enemies before taking the next step of his journey down to the ring, where he can discover what he has missed during his absence.
Halo Infinite’s opening mission and Master Chief’s return
When we spoke with 343, the studio stressed that it wants Halo Infinite to serve as a spiritual successor to the original game that began the series. That intention is especially clear during this opening mission, as Chief makes his way through the Brute warship’s metal corridors before descending to the universe’s ultimate weapon, mirroring his time fighting through the Pillar of Autumn in Halo: Combat Evolved.
New combat and the Grappleshot
This clip offers more than nostalgia, as it also provides a look at the game’s new combat. The Grappleshot will become the player’s closest companion; as shown here, it is useful for far more than scaling Halo Infinite’s increasingly vertical levels.
This is only the beginning of the excitement for fans eagerly anticipating Halo Infinite’s 8 December release! Over the next few weeks, join us at Game Informer as we unload a huge amount of fresh information about developer 343’s latest instalment in the iconic series, including a more detailed look at the campaign, our new impressions of the single-player mode, and much more! Thanks for watching, and we hope you enjoy the coverage!
